This Giannini is rated in Good condition. There are some small scratches at the base, a slight dimple on the top. It is hard to see unless you turn it just right. Great playability and condition is good considering it's age (c 1970)
Giannini baritone ukuleles, made in Brazil, are sought-after vintage instruments, popular for their warm, deep tone, often constructed from mahogany and tuned DGBE (like the top four guitar strings), making them a great transition for guitarists, commonly found from the 1960s-1970s and prized for their quality and classic sound.
- Origin: Made in São Paulo, Brazil.
- Material: Commonly all-laminate mahogany (though sometimes mistaken for solid), known for quality construction.
- Tone: Produces a rich, deep, mellow sound, well-suited for fingerpicking or light strumming, ideal for guitarists transitioning to uke.
- Tuning: DGBE (like the top four strings of a guitar).
- Design: Simple, utilitarian, often with a classic rosette and plastic dot inlays.
- Components: May have original friction pegs or upgraded geared tuners; brass frets are common.
What to Expect:
- Durability: Built tough, with laminate holding up well over time.
- Sound Quality: Surprisingly resonant and full-bodied for its age and construction, benefiting from decades of aging.
- Condition: Varies; expect minor dings and wear for its age, but generally well-crafted.
- Upgrades: Many have received upgrades like bone saddles, new strings (Martins are popular), or under-saddle pickups for modern playability.
These Giannini baritones are valued for their authentic vintage feel and warm, guitar-like voice, making them popular with both beginners and collectors.
