Come on out for an evening of folk, Americana, and blues music with three of Northern California's most captivating singer-songwriters, Jessica Malone, Blair Borax, Caitlin Jemma. And for those budding songwriters looking to hone their skills, come early for a songwriting workshop by these three celebrated artists.

Workshop Description:
During this 90-minute songwriting workshop, co-taught by professional singer-songwriters Jessica Malone, Caitlin Jemma, and Blair Borax, you will, first, learn about the "anatomy of a song" (verse, chorus, bridge, etc.) and how to use those sections as building blocks to create your own songs with dynamic creative structures and emotional resonance. Next, you will be guided through a generative creative free-writing exercise, focusing on uninhibited, unedited self-expression (sans inner-critic). Whatever comes from the exercise will be used as the starting place to bring your song into form. Last, you will have the opportunity to find your own space away from the group to begin developing your unique song lyrics, melody, structure, and form (with or/without instruments). Music is a healing and potent medicine that can be used to respond to life’s challenges. This workshop will help you find the song inside that uplifts, inspires, and heals you.

*This workshop is open to songwriters of all skill levels. From aspiring to write your first song to prolific songwriters, all are welcome.
*Please bring a pen, notebook, and your instrument if you'd like to accompany yourself during the songwriting exercise.

Jessica Malone:
Northern California roots, singer-songwriter Jessica Malone blends soulful lyrics with sultry sounds that seem to illuminate the landscape itself, her voice guiding you across terrain at once folk, jazz, Americana, and blues. This award-winning songstress, who holds a BA in Vocal Performance, has played a multitude of festivals including Napa Earth, Davis Music, and BottleRock, performed on stages as prominent as the Harris Center Three Stages and the Mondavi Center, and opened for the likes of John Paul White and Front Country. Described as, “the real deal,” by Nat Keefe of Hot Buttered Rum, her tone a blend of Nicki Bluhm, Joni Mitchell, and a magic all her own, Malone just release her brand new single “Sweet Sunlight” this summer to rave reviews  - a new album is forthcoming!

Caitlin Jemma:
Indie musician and singer-songwriter Caitlin Jemma grew up in a small mining town in Northern Nevada. Her music draws inspiration from desert landscapes — inviting listeners into the depths of a raw, beautiful, and expansive human experience. Conjuring the soulfulness of Norah Jones, the melancholy of Joni Mitchell, and the lyric-bending bewitchment of Bonnie Raitt, Jemma’s songs take listeners on an atmospheric journey from heartbreak to hope. Her latest creations are inspired by death, heartbreak, transformation, and true love. Her vulnerable-yet-spirited songs explore the full emotional spectrum of being human, while posing an age-old philosophical question: “What is the true meaning of life?>

Blair Borax:
Blair Borax is a singer-songwriter who writes tender folk-pop songs to make you feel less alone. “With rich lyrics and a voice like molasses,” poet Juniper Klatt says, “Blair Borax makes music that moves you to the heart of being human, offers you a warm cup of tea, and invites you to stay a while.”  With vocal stylings reminiscent of 1920s jazz, songwriting that is unafraid to tackle the taboo, and pop melodies that stay with you for days, Blair Borax has something special to offer. She conjures a vocal charm somewhere in between Regina Spektor and First Aid Kit, wordsmithing inspired by the songwriting greats like John Prine, and moody vulnerability like Haley Heynderickx and Big Thief’s Adrienne Lenker.  After releasing her first EP ‘everything is light work’ in May of 2021, Blair released her debut full-length album “Keep Walking” in June 2022.  “Keep Walking” will take you on an emotional journey about moving forward with your head held high, beyond trauma and heartache. It is the perfect companion to help you keep walking too.  She is working on her sophomore record, “Tender Lately” this year.
