2026/06/05 Kanekoa Workshop & Concert

Date: Friday, June 5 Kanekoa’s ukulele-powered music blends island soul, rock energy, blues, reggae, folk, and improvisational jam-band spirit into a sound that is unmistakably their own. Based on Maui, the band has built a devoted following through electrifying live performances filled with extended jams, mashups, and infectious rhythms. Featuring Kaulana Kanekoa, Vince Esquire, Travis Rice, and Don Lopez, the group has spent decades redefining what the ukulele can do — pushing the instrument into entirely new territory with electric textures, deep grooves, and rich harmonies rooted in Hawaiian tradition. Kanekoa has shared stages with artists including Willie Nelson, Blues Traveler’s John Popper, Jake Shimabukuro, G Love, Los Lobos, Joan Osborne, and members of the Grateful Dead family. Bill Kreutzmann famously dubbed them “The Hawaiian Grateful Dead.” The band’s acclaimed recordings include the Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winning Tales of the Fruit Stand Mystic, while their live performances remain the true heart of the experience — joyful, soulful, improvisational, and deeply connected to the spirit of Hawai‘i. Whether weaving together Hawaiian originals with classic rock influences or launching into unexpected medleys and extended jams, Kanekoa creates concerts that feel both intimate and explosive — like a backyard party with world-class musicianship.Kanekoa
