Bio With 35 years experience fronting bands in Northern California, Andy Santana blues Harmonica player and teacher has been a featured artist in venues as varied as the Monterey Blues Festival, the Monterey Jazz Festival, the San Francisco Blues Festival, the Filmore, the Santa Cruz Blues Festival, the Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans, Battle of the Harps Victoria Theater San Francisco, San Jose Jazz Fest, the Shoreline Amphitheater, venues from Seattle to Belgium and many, many more.
Late 2018 Andy Santana was inducted into the Sacramento Blues society “Hall of Fame”. He is also a Delta Groove Music recording artist. On October 16, 2015, his latest CD "Watch Your Step" released worldwide and early after its release garnered rave reviews.
Andy’s continued playing and on stage experience gives the potential student a unique perspective of performance and crowd interaction. Andy teaches basic technique divided into a dozen primary and beginning techniques. Basic understanding of various music progressions and how other band members interact, provides an understanding of playing without stepping on the toes of fellow band members. Emphasis on big fat tone and precise air control gives the student all the tools needed to sound like the masters. Also taught is how to get the most out of equipment. This includes mic technique and how to set up an amp for the best tone. Also provided are lessons on harmonica repair, customizing and general maintenance. Lastly, a study of early harmonica blues masters, their styles and techniques gives the student an extensive look at the history and evolution of the blues.
